HISTORY OF FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN CORDELL, OKLAHOMA

The above had its beginning as The Dutch Reform Church of America which was organized on Sunday, August 24, 1902 with 14 members. Two elders were elected. The following day Rev. John M. Vander Muelen was called as supply pastor, without salary.

A Sunday School was organized in the Fall of 1902, lots were bought and a church and manse were built - in 1903 a parish house was built.

The following pastors served this church until March 27, 1911:

On July 1, 1911 The Reformed Church of America was transferred to the Presbyterian Church, U.S. March 20, 1914, the congregation voted to buy a church building from American Christian Missionary Society and the Trustees bought it. It was located in the north part of town, Lots 2 & 4 Blk 37.  In 1941 the Church changed from U.S. to U.S.A.

September 1948 the session considered the plans for a new building to be located at 2nd and College Streets.  In May 1949, the foundation was laid and in the Fall of 1950 Dedication services were held.

About 1914 The Ladies Aid Society was formed. Later it was called Auxiliary and after that Presbyterian Missionary Guild. The duties remained pretty much the same throughout the years.

As of 1983 the UPW (now PW) supported Church Women United, World Day of Prayer, Indian Nations Presbyterial Pledge, White Cross Sewing Project, Presbyterial Operating Budget, Summer Medical Offering, Sewing and Supplies for Missions, Thank Offering, Gifts for Shut-ins, Hospital Hospitality House, Dwight Mission Van Fund, Fellowship of the TnaSt Coin. Veterans Hospital Christmas Party.
