The Annual Kate Lectures Series at the Church of the Savior, 5600 NW 63, features religious scholar and author Paul Kirbas as guest speaker at two public presentations September 14-15.

Kirbas, holds the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Columbia Seminary, and a PhD in Theological Studies from the Graduate Theological Foundation. His doctoral studies focused on a Theology of Nature. Kirbas has authored several books and serves as Editor of the newly released book and DVD This Sacred Earth, featuring essays from leading scientists and theologians from around the world. He currently serves as the Senior Pastor at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City, and as the President of The Kirbas Institute, which works to advance the dialogue between faith and science. He is host of the television show “The Exchange, Where Faith and Science Meet.”

Thursday’s lecture “Epic Battles Between Faith and Science Busted,” Kirbas will do some “myth busting” and show that the relationship between faith and science is much more complex than we think. Is a new relationship possible once we realize faith and science are not enemies?

On Friday, Kirbas will present “Faith and Science Unite! The Planet needs you!” In this lecture he moves on to the crisis of climate change and looks at fresh new ways for faith communities to become leaders in earth care.

Both lectures will be presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. September 14-15. The lectures are free and open to the public.
